Short breaks more effective than design (Davis 2014); Four different configurations compared
- conventional sitting desk
- sit-stand desk
- conventional sitting desk with break-reminder software
- sit-stand desk with break-reminder software
Productivity: improved 10%
Comfort: significantly better at the upper back, mid-back and low back
Take Regular Breaks!
Short breaks away from the desk are known to be effective for better comfort and improved work productivity.
To stand up and step away from the desk for one to two minutes every hour has been shown to make a 10% in work productivity and a significantly reduced report of pain in the upper, mid, and low back.
These short breaks are also shown to be more effective at lowering symptoms than the design of the work station when standard and sit/stand desks were compared.
